Meeting of the Extended Executive Committee of CCJP Archdiocese of Harare

This weekend, CCJP team is joining hands with the Tree of Life team to run a second workshop on trauma counselling for Mufakose community. The workshop will take place at Kufunda Village, some 20kms out of Harare close to Mbizi Game park.

 

24th of July 2010

Closure Year of the Priest at Glamis Arena - CCJP Harare is providing information about its work. Support CCJP by buying material (white, blue, red and beige) with the CCJP logo.

 

16th - 18th July 2010

National Movement of Catholic Students (NMCS) in collaboration with CCJP Archdiocese of Harare is organizing a workshop on the Constitution Making Process at UZ starting 2 p.m.

Healing and Reconciliation in the Archdiocese of Harare

CCJP Archdiocese of Harare is conducting workshops on Healing and Reconciliation in cooperation with Tree of Life and Counceling Service Unit in Mvurwi, Mutoko, Mufakose and Tafara from June to September 2010. If you need further information contact the CCJP office.

 

Football and Integration

Football can play many roles. In the latest publication of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation on Africa and Football, Afrika am Ball, the role of football tournaments as a way of dealing with the past in Zimbabwe is emphasized. In an article it is described how football tournaments organized by CCJP Harare and CCJP Mutare can have an educational role in peace building and even in healing and reconciliation.

Mumemo Declaration: A New Pentecost for Africa and A Boost for CCJP

End of May 2010 134 delegates from 46 countries, representing Caritas Africa and the SECAM (Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar) Justice, Peace and Development Departments and other organisations from within and outside the Catholic Church in Africa met in Mumemo, Maputo, Mozambique. They reflected and discussed the message and propositions generated by the Second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Africa, held in Rome in October 2009.

In the 2 1/2 pages Mumemo Declaration the participants stated f.e.:

'Responding to the challenges to the Church which were identified by the Cardinal, participants of the consultation made the following points:

  • The Synod signifies a renewal of the Church - the New Pentecost - but the Church must move to be more active  and not remain content with theory.
  • A New Pentecost necessitates a change of attitude and priorities: the Church is not addressing the needs of modern society adequately and should reach out more to marginalised groups, especially women, young people, people living with disabilities and the poorest of the poor.
  • Theological reflection must lead the Church to a pastoral approach in the fields of reconciliation, justice and peace. While retaining her pastoral dimension in the fields of reconciliation, justice and peace, she also has to challenge herself and ask how she is living the communion.
  • Reconciliation, justice and peace must be high on the agendas of all dioceses; Justice and Peace Commissions are mandatory, not optional
  • The Church in Africa has been outstanding in the provision of social services, especially health and education. But education must be for life witness, not just for academic achievement.
  • The Church must engage in political issues to bring real change, but should avoid being partisan.'
 

Zimbabwean Constitution - Monitoring Outreach Teams

CCJP office Harare together with CCJP animators, CCJP Parish committees, Guilds and National Movement of Catholic Students organized meetings on the Zimbabwean Constitution making process with participants from all over the Diocese. Parishoners were informed about the process and discussed issues of concern. We want to thank facilitators of COPAC, the Ministry of Constitutional Affairs, several lawyers, priests and other resource persons for supporting the process organized by CCJP. Books on the constitution making process in Shona and English published by African Community Publishing and Development Trust were available through the CCJP office of the Archdiocese of Harare. We hope that many members of the Catholic Church feel prepared for the Outreach Teams.

At the moment CCJP animators are monitoring the Outreach Programme.
